THE COMMUNITY BEHAVIORAL ECONOMY
THE COMMUNITY BEHAVIORAL ECONOMY
It never crossed humanity's mind that societal behaviors — both individual and familial — would one day be traded on the stock exchange of social media to generate profits for their owners through views and interactions. Social media platforms, particularly TikTok, have transformed the daily behaviors of families and individuals into a commodified "product" that yields financial return. These behaviors are now practiced with "price tags" that vary based on the quantity and nature of interactions, comments, and views. Consequently, we are facing a socio-economic phenomenon that demands thorough analysis and research: "Societal Behavioral Economics." This phenomenon requires experts to examine its pros and cons in order to establish a "societal behavioral economics" model that strikes a balance between individual and societal interests. We often find that this type of economy elevates the individual's economic interest at the expense of societal well-being; an individual's economic growth must not serve as a wrecking ball against the community's values, customs, and behaviors. Hence, this served as the motivation to address this phenomenon in our research — written in English — titled "Societal Behavioral Economics." In this study, we present statistics addressing the negative, economic, social, and psychological impacts of this novel economic model, alongside its positive outcomes that serve both the individual and society. Furthermore, we propose models for legal and economic solutions that achieve a sustainable socio-economic balance for both parties.
